Exhibition type Tournaments
Exhibition type tournaments are made for television events.
They are generally one-day events with a limited number
of very well-known, charismatic participants, held at an
important or meaningful venue. The edited version prepared
for television broadcast is reduced to approximately one
hour which includes the local scenario sequences, historical
and cultural segments, player profiles and interviews and
is distributed to the main broadcasting channels around
the world, thus ensuring a potential viewing audience of
hundreds of millions.
Amen Corner, S.A. has staged, amongst others, two important
events that produced very noteworthy international repercussions:
the "Royal Green Cup '93" and "1995 Canaries
Cup". Both events brought together four élite
players in a matchplay team challenge between, in the first
place, Spain and the USA; namely, Tom Watson and Payne Stewart
against Seve Ballesteros and José María Olazábal,
held on Seve's beautiful home course in his native Pedreña.
The second event, aided by the Canaries local government
and held at the Royal Las Palmas Golf Club, a virtual oasis
set atop an extinguished crater surrounded by jagged black
peaks, was a similar type of match with the British pair,
Colin Montgomerie and Sam Torrance face to face with the
"invincible Ballesteros/Olazábal tandem".
Both were highly successful events and were viewed over
the five continents.
This format admits almost every variety of play and style
(Stableford, Matchplay, Skins, etc.). The client, sponsors,
television and players determine the type of event to be
staged.
